Glossary

Definitions for Hector’s custom scores and tools. Raw OOTP fields (Contact, Stuff, WAR, etc.) come from your export; the metrics below are what Hector calculates from them using client-side weights (editable in Options).

Pitcher scores

Default Total on the Pitchers tab is stats-based. Toggle Use Ratings-Based Scoring for scout-ratings Total. Sample floors (default SP ≥40 IP, RP ≥20 IP) update live; below the floor, Total is 0 (not ratings). Pitch / Current / Potential stay ratings-based for reference. Stats contribution weights are under Options → Pitcher stats weights.

Total Score (stats)
WAR 28%, ERA+ 28% (scaled by IP sample reliability — full at 120 IP SP / 50 IP RP), rWAR 14%, FIP- 10% (lower better; sample-scaled), HLD 5% (RP/CL only). IP is not in the score. Prefer WAR or rWAR in Options by raising one and lowering the other.
Total Score (ratings)
Full pitcher value: current core + arsenal + all potentials + other attributes + penalties. Used when Use Ratings-Based Scoring is on.
Pitch Score
Weighted sum of current pitch arsenal grades only (Fastball, Slider, Curveball, etc.). Does not include Stuff, Movement, or Control.
Pitch Pot. Score
Weighted sum of each pitch type’s potential grade only. Does not include Stuff / Movement / Control potential.
Potential Score
Core potential (Stuff Pot. + Movement Pot. + Control Pot.) plus all pitch potential grades plus potential penalties. Overall future ceiling signal.
Current Score
Present-day value only: current Stuff / Movement / Control + current arsenal + other current factors (stamina, # pitches, G/F, etc.) and current penalties. No potential ratings.

Current penalties: SP low pitch count (<4), SP low stamina (<50), SP low Control (<50), or no current pitch ≥50. Potential penalties: SP low Control Potential (<50), or no pitch potential ≥50. Current ones hit Current Score; potential ones hit Potential Score; both are in Total. FIP- on the Pitchers tab isolates skill from team defense; the Teams tab uses raw FIP (+ SIERA) because franchise defense is relevant when scoring a club.

Batter scores

Default Total on the Batters tab is stats-based. Toggle Use Ratings-Based Scoring for scout-ratings Total. Min games (default ≥50) updates live; below the floor, Total is 0 (not ratings). Offense / Defense / Off. Pot. stay ratings-based for reference. Stats contribution weights are under Options → Batter stats weights.

Total Score (stats)
wRC+ 30% and OPS+ 15% (scaled by games — full at 120 G), WAR 30%. ZR, UBR, and CERA default to weight 0 (still shown on the table; raise in Options for an extra boost on top of WAR). G is not in the score.
Total Score (ratings)
Offense + offense potential + defense + baserunning + scout accuracy (as weighted). Used when Use Ratings-Based Scoring is on.
Offense
Weighted sum of current batting tools: Contact, Gap, Power, Eye, K’s (overall section in batter weights).
Offense Pot. / Off. Pot.
Same idea as Offense, but using potential ratings only (Contact Pot., Gap Pot., etc.).
Defense
Position-gated fielding value (catcher / infield / outfield skills as relevant to primary POS). DH contributes 0 defense. Range/arm weights can vary by position (e.g. SS range, 3B arm, CF range).
OVR / POT Stars
Passthrough from the export’s overall / potential star ratings — displayed, not re-scored into Total.

Team aggregates

Per organization (ORG). Defaults to Major League / MLB only (Include minors to add lower levels; blank Lev still counts). Potential pitching columns use scouted potential skills only — stamina / velocity / pitch count are not projected, so pitching potential can look lower than current.

Include minors
When off, only Major League / MLB (and blank Lev) are summed. Same Lev preference as Pitchers/Batters list filters.
Use Ratings-Based Scoring (Teams)
Teams-only toggle. Unchecked (default) = production stats columns. Checked = scout ratings columns. Does not change Pitchers/Batters scoring or weights.
Avg Age
Mean age of included pitchers and batters on that ORG.
Avg $/WAR
Context only — not in Total. Team total salary (SLR) ÷ team total WAR, in millions per WAR (e.g. $4.25M). Blank when team WAR ≤ 0.
SP Curr. / RP Curr.
Ratings mode: sum of Current Score for starters (SP) or relievers (RP/CL).
Pitching Curr.
Ratings mode: SP Curr. + RP Curr.
SP Pot. / RP Pot. / Pitching Pot.
Ratings mode: sum of pitcher Potential Score pieces (core pot + pitch pot) by role, then combined.
Offense Curr. / Offense Pot.
Ratings mode: sum of batters’ Offense and Offense Potential on the team.
Team Defense
Ratings mode: sum of batters’ Defense scores.
Total Team Score (ratings)
Pitching Curr. + Offense Curr. + Defense only. Potential is shown for context but not included in Total.
SP Stats / RP Stats / Pitching Stats
Stats mode: weighted WAR, ERA+, rWAR, FIP, SIERA (lower FIP/SIERA better); RP also includes HLD. IP is not in the score. No Min IP floor on Teams. Pitching Stats = SP + RP.
Offense Stats
Stats mode: weighted wRC+, WAR, OPS+, G, UBR.
Defense Stats
Stats mode: weighted ZR; CERA and Errors inverted (lower/fewer is better). Blank CERA skipped.
Total Team Score (stats)
Pitching Stats + Offense Stats + Defense Stats.
Team List upload
Optional HTML export (Abbr, record, park, park factors, DIV, lyW/lyL/ly%). Joined to Teams / League Analysis / Neutral park (Compare & Trade) by Abbr ↔ ORG.
Neutral park
Toggle on Compare and Trade. Estimates park-sensitive counting/raw rates as if PF = 1.0 using the player’s home-team factors from Team List: adjusted = raw / PF (PF HR for HR and HR/9; PF AVG for AVG/OBP/SLG/OPS/ISO/wOBA; overall PF for ERA/WHIP/FIP). On Trade, also scales each player’s Total (and side Stats Total / Overall comparison): batters × 1/√(PF AVG × PF HR), pitchers × PF (clamped ~0.80–1.25). Does not change OPS+, wRC+, ERA+, FIP-, WAR, or Curr/Pot. Disabled until a Team List is uploaded. Preference is shared across Compare and Trade.

Compare

Player compare
Side-by-side view of 2–3 batters or pitchers: identity/contract, overlaid 20–80 ratings radar (current grades), ratings (current/potential), season stats with majors ranks, and league percentiles. Same type only. Choose Roster, Draft class, or IFA pool (draft/IFA need their uploads). On Pitchers, Batters, and IFA, check up to 3 rows then use Compare (n) to open with those players preloaded. On Draft you can select many rows: Compare still opens with the first 3, or use Export to text for all selected IDs in order. Player cards also have Compare.
Draft class pool
Compare against the draft-class upload: search, percentiles, and ratings use that pool. Season stats ranks are omitted (amateurs have no majors production).
IFA pool
Compare against the Int'l amateurs upload. Same ratings-only behavior as Draft class (no majors season stats). Uses the IFA pool for percentiles.
Neutral park (Season stats)
Checkbox next to Season stats. When on, adjustable counting/raw rates (and MLB ranks for those rows) use Team List park factors. Plus-stats and WAR rows stay as exported.

Trade analyzer

Normalized player value
Each side’s players are scaled so the league’s max pitcher Total and max batter Total map to 100. Lets arms and bats compare on a shared scale.
Current / Potential / Def (trade)
Ratings sub-scores (always shown). When stats Total is on, Total still comes from production stats — Curr/Pot/Def do not sum to Total.
Stats columns
Separate columns: AVG, HR (batters), ERA, HR/9 (pitchers) — park-adjustable with Neutral park — plus wRC+, OPS+, CERA (catchers), WAR, ERA+, FIP- — unused cells are blank for the other player type — plus SLR and role-pooled $/WAR. With Neutral park on, the Total column and trade comparison use park-scaled Totals; +stats columns stay as exported.
$/WAR pools
Separate medians for SP, RP (RP+CL), and batters among majors with WAR > 0.5 and SLR > 0. For each pool’s market median: if there are at least 8 signed deals (YL status signed, not pre-arb/arb), the median uses signed $/WAR rates only — so cheap team-control contracts don’t drag the rate down. Otherwise the median uses all eligible rates. Lower player $/WAR → higher value percentile within that pool.
Stats Total
Side sum of player score totals before the modest Contract Δ adjustment (ratings + production weights).
WAR (sum)
Raw WAR added across players on that side of the trade.
Contract Δ
Sum of (WAR × pool median $/WAR − SLR) for that side. Positive means under the pool rate. A modest capped version of this is folded into Overall.
Draft pick value
R1P1 targets ~65% of the best player Total in the loaded file. Value falls by pick slot (exponential curve) and by round.
Standings position
When adding a pick: 1 = best team (picks later), last place = worst team (picks earlier). Pick # = teams + 1 − standings position.
Overall Trade Winner
Side with the higher Total (normalized players + pick values + modest Contract Δ adjustment).

Contract estimator

Uses spreadsheet stats (OPS+, wRC+, ERA+, FIP-, WAR, rWAR, SLR, YL) — not Hector Total Scores.

Comparables
Same player type (batter vs pitcher), filtered by position scope, optional age window (empty by default = no age filter; set Age ± years to limit), tighter ±% / ±WAR bands (defaults ±10% rate stats including FIP- for pitchers, ±1 WAR/rWAR), and playing-time floors (G ≥ 40 or the selected batter’s G if lower; IP ≥ 30 or the selected pitcher’s IP if lower). After Analyze, changing these filters updates comps and the suggested AAV live.
Pre-arb / arb
YL values like 1 (auto.) / 1 (arbitr.) are team-controlled. By default they are hidden from the comps table and excluded from the suggested AAV. Enable Include pre-arb / arb comps to show and price off them (updates live without re-analyzing).
Similarity
Lower is closer. Batters: OPS+ 35% + wRC+ 35% + WAR 15% + age 15%. Pitchers: ERA+ 25% + FIP- 20% + WAR 20% + rWAR 20% + age 15% (FIP- is lower-is-better; similarity uses relative gap the same way). Age distance is |Δage|/10 (capped at 1).
Suggested AAV
From eligible comps (signed by default; up to 12). Prefer median $/WAR in the same scarcity group (SP, RP, C, SS, CF, IF, OF, DH) × the player’s WAR, with premiums for C/SS/CF. If fewer than 4 $/WAR rates, fall back to median SLR. Extreme salaries are dropped first.
Suggested years
Median years left (YL) from that same eligible set, then age-adjusted (shorter if age ≥ 32, longer if age ≤ 25).
Compare from comps
After analyzing, check 1–2 rows in the comps table and use Compare selected to open Compare with the estimated player plus those comps preloaded.

Upcoming FA

Under More → Upcoming FA. Lists roster players who may hit free agency or be deadline trade candidates — not Extension Watch deal-grading.

Who is listed
Signed players with YL = 1 (final year of the deal) and no extension in the export (ECV / ETY blank, -, or zero). Pre-arb (auto.) and arbitration (arbitr.) are excluded even if years left is 1.
vs Extension Watch
Portal’s Extension Watch focused on players who already have pending/accepted extensions (ECV > 0) and graded those deals. Hector’s Upcoming FA is the opposite market signal: expiring deals without an extension.
Export columns
Requires YL (Yrs) on the Player List. Include ECV and ETY under MISC so players who already signed extensions are filtered out; if those columns are missing, everyone with signed YL = 1 appears.

Team Salary

Under More → Team Salary. PuckPedia-style multi-year roster grid for one ORG (defaults to your Options franchise). OOTP Player List exports do not include calendar year or year-by-year escalators.

Columns
Relative seasons: Now, +1, +2, … built from remaining YL (capped at 10). After main years, if ECV > 0 and ETY > 0, extension AAV years follow. After the last committed season: FA for signed deals, or EXP (expiring) for pre-arb / arb — not labeled FA.
Cell values
Defaults to AAV (CV ÷ TY when present, else SLR). Toggle to Salary for flat current SLR. Extension years always use extension AAV (ECV ÷ ETY). Pre-arb / arb still fill years from YL with a status chip — not FA until signed/control years end.
$/WAR
Current-season rate: SLR ÷ WAR (millions per WAR), shown between the player and year columns. Negative WAR yields a negative rate (e.g. -$2.50M). Blank when WAR is 0 or salary is missing. Independent of the AAV/Salary year toggle.
Groups & totals
Default layout is Combined (one roster table and one team-wide Now payroll pie). P / B splits Pitchers vs Batters; By POS splits SP · RP · C · IF · OF · DH (CL→RP; corner OF→OF; 1B/2B/3B/SS→IF). Grouped layouts show a % of group donut per section; Combined shows one larger % of team pie. Each header shows count, sum of This-year amounts, and % of that team’s This-year payroll (not league salary cap). Click column headers (Player, $/WAR, Now, +1…) to sort rows; contract cells are unchanged.

Hidden Gems

Under More → Hidden Gems. Flags overlooked players by category. All eligibility uses 20–80 current ratings only — OVR, POT, and star-scale values are ignored.

AAAA Players
Confirmed non-majors only (Lev not MLB). Tool composite (bat: CON/POW/EYE; pit: STU/MOV/Control) falls in the p25–p75 band of productive major leaguers in the same position group (SP, RP, C, IF, OF, DH — CL→RP; LF/CF/RF→OF; 1B/2B/3B/SS→IF), with sample floors (wRC+/ERA+ ≥ 100), and below that group’s p90.
Miscast Players
Batters whose primary POS is C, SS, or CF, bat composite (CON/POW/EYE) ≥ 50, and position-specific defense mean < 40 (C: ABI/ARM/FRM; SS/CF: RNG/ARM/ERR). Upside: DH / corner.
Toolsy Gambles
Age ≤ 27 with 1–2 tools ≥ 65 and at least one tool in 40–50 (bat: CON/POW/EYE/SPE; pit: STU/MOV/CON). Minors only (same Lev rule as AAAA).
Starter Converts
Primary POS SP, STM < 45, STU ≥ 55 or MOV ≥ 55, and at least three current pitches rated ≥ 45 — better suited as a reliever.
Reliever Converts
Primary POS RP or CL, STM ≥ 50, STU ≥ 55 or MOV ≥ 55, and at least three current pitches rated ≥ 45 — candidate to stretch out as a starter.
Park Nerfed
Requires Team List. Major leaguers only (ORG park factors are MLB parks). Batters in extreme pitcher parks (PF < 0.95 or PF HR < 0.90) with POW ≥ 50 or CON ≥ 55. Pitchers in extreme hitter parks (PF > 1.05 or PF HR > 1.10) with STU ≥ 50 or MOV ≥ 55.
Gem%
Per-category strength score (0–100) for how well the player matches that gem rule — e.g. how centered in the AAAA band, how extreme a miscast, convert stamina/stuff, park extremity. Not the Archetypes Fit %.
Why / Upside
Hover the player name for Why and Upside; they are not separate table columns.

Modes & search

Draft tab
Separate draft-class player pool from an optional Draft Class HTML upload. Scored with draft ratings meta (default potential ×1.5, current/overall ×0.9). A Current↔Potential slider on the Draft tab biases that meta without changing Options multipliers. Check as many rows as you want: use Compare (n) for the first 3 in selection order, or Export to text for all selected player IDs (one per line, selection order). No Team column (amateurs are undrafted). Batter list shows Dura (Prone), Contact, Power, and EYE instead of OVR/POT stars. Pitchers also show G/F and Dura after Velo. Score columns have hover tips. Player cards use the draft pool for percentiles and show full ratings + radar (no majors Stats tab).
IFA tab
Separate Int'l amateurs player pool from an optional International Amateur FA HTML upload. Uses the same draft ratings meta as the Draft tab (default potential ×1.5, current/overall ×0.9) with its own Current↔Potential slider. Independent from Draft so both pools can be loaded. Same list UX as Draft (no Team column; ratings-only cards/Compare; no majors Stats tab).
Top 20 by POS (pitchers)
Top 20 by Total within SP and within RP (CL counted as RP), after your live filters.
Top 10 by POS (batters)
Top 10 by Total at each position. Optional Secondary ≥50 includes players whose rating at that position is at least 50.
Search bar
Space-separated tokens. Text matches Name / Team / POS. Age comparisons like >25, <30. Example: CAS SP >25.
Player profile URL
Options → Statsplus website integration. Template with {pid} for StatsPlus pages. Saved in this browser’s localStorage.
Your team
Options → Your team. Pick your franchise ORG after uploading data. Highlights matching players on Pitchers/Batters and your row on Teams.

Percentiles & player card

Right-click (or Ctrl/Cmd-click) a player row for league-wide percentile bars, best/worst metrics, and archetype fits. Roster cards use Major League / MLB players only (blank Lev excluded). Batter bars include Defense (average of position tools, same as the radar DEF axis) and ZR. Draft and IFA cards rank ratings vs their own tab pools instead. OVR/POT star ratings are not included in percentiles. Tiers: Elite 90–100, Above Avg 70–89, Average 40–69, Below Avg 20–39, Poor 0–19.

Franchise archetypes

Seventeen team-building philosophies. Each has a checklist of ratings/stats; contributions use smooth curves between thresholds (so SPE 69 is nearly as good as 70, not a cliff). Fit % is that total, capped at 100.

Fit %
0–100 from the archetype’s smoothed checklist. Shown on the Archetypes table and player card (labels like “Perfect Fit” are no longer displayed — the % is the score).

League Analysis

Under More → League Analysis. Needs a Team List upload plus Player List. Standings, parks, DIV, and year-over-year come from Team List; batting/pitching WAR are summed from majors roster players by ORG (not Team List WAR columns).

Environment
Mean overall PF: hitter-friendly (>1.05), pitcher-friendly (<0.95), else neutral.
Parity
Win% standard deviation: high (<0.070), medium (<0.100), low otherwise. Near .500 ≈ ±5 / ±10 games in a 162-game season.
Extreme parks
PF HR or PF AVG outside 0.90–1.10 (HR friendly/suppressing, AVG inflating/suppressing).
Super teams
Both batting and pitching WAR at or above the ~90th percentile among clubs (requires ≥10 teams).
Year-over-year
Current W% − ly%. Wins +/- (pace) = projected full-season wins at current W% minus last year’s wins; season length is the median of last year’s W+L across clubs (so mid-season standings don’t look like huge win deficits). Needs ly% / lyW / lyL on the Team List export.

Row highlights

Tinted rows flag training / role-change candidates, or your franchise when Your team is set in Options. Hover a highlighted row for the same tip.

Your team
Green accent on Pitchers/Batters players whose ORG matches Options → Your team, and on that org’s Teams / League Analysis rows.
RP → SP potential
Reliever (RP/CL) with ≥3 pitches and stamina ≥ 50 — candidate to develop as a starter.
1B → 3B
First baseman with IF Range ≥ 50, IF Arm ≥ 55, IF Error ≥ 45 — candidate to train at third.
2B → SS
Second baseman with IF Range ≥ 65, IF Arm ≥ 50, IF Error ≥ 50, TDP ≥ 50 — candidate to train at shortstop.
